St John's is a community committed to learning more about systemic injustice, hearing the voices and accounts of those oppressed by white privilege and racism, and striving to eliminate unjust structures in the church and wider society.
We are particularly committed to hearing the truth about Canada's history of oppression and genocide of Indigenous peoples, including the shame of the Indian Residential Schools system which operated from the 1820's until 1996, some of which the Anglican Church of Canada operated on behalf of the federal government.
We also commit ourselves to hearing the voices of Black Canadians and other people of colour who experience racism.
And, we strive to be a diverse and inclusive community of faith where all people, regardless of gender or sexuality, are fully included in our common life, knowing that the Anglican Church of Canada has wounded, and in some cases continues to wound, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
